A new, non-recalled Galaxy Note 7 just exploded

Samsung has recently launched a new batch of Galaxy Note 7’s that do not explode, like the older models. However, one user got his hands on the new non-recalled Note 7 to only have it explode again.

A Southwest passenger by the name of Brian Green recently got his hands on the new Note 7 and was flying from Louisville to Baltimore. But unfortunately, that flight was cut short as his phone caught fire while waiting for the flight to start

.

According to Green, the phone was bought on September 21st from the AT&T store and had the black square on the box indicating that it is indeed a unit with a good battery. He also went on to explain that the phone had the green battery icon, which Samsung is using to indicate post-recall phones. Green shut down his device when told to do so by the flight attendance with an 80% charge left. That’s when the phone started to start smoking as “thick grey-green angry smoke” started to come out of the device. The plane was then evacuated for safety measures.

The burning phone was strong enough to melt through the plane’s carpet and land on the metal subfloor. Samsung hasn’t made a statement relating to this case, and it could easily be a hoax. Smartphones have a higher chance of exploding when they are damaged or defective and if it’s not a part of a widespread issue.

The Louisville fire department currently has the Note 7, Green has since gone back to AT&T and got a new iPhone 7 instead
