Jony Ive to become Apple's first Chief Design Officer

Like it or not, Jony Ive has played a huge part of Apple's design process. He has looked over pretty much everything from iOS to the Apple Watch. He has done such a good job that Apple has given him a job promotion to become the company's first Chief Design Officer, according to a report via The Telegraph. Ive, who was a former Senior VP will look over Apple's broader design goals, by adding leaders dedicated to certain areas such as User Interfaces and Industrial design.

Ive later explains why he accepted the promotion by saying that it "frees [him] up" and lets him focus more on design. After all, Ive has been quite busy lately, designing most of the products that Apple sells today, and even designing some of Apple's new spaceship looking campus.

Nothing much will change because of this promotion, Apple will still be Apple, however, Ive could have a bigger play in future products designs from here on. And that's not a bad thing.
