Sony firing all batteries with new Xperia phones

Announced at Mobile World Congress in March, the new Xperia smartphones were set to be announced in June. Starting with the Xperia Z3+, which is essentially an Xperia Z4 that the Japanese market has already access to, but the rest of the globe gets the Z3+.

Toting the same 5.2 inch 1080p display, on top of the same 20.7 mega pixel Exmor RS sensor and body design; the key difference lies in a few internal changes instead. A new Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor, with Adreno 430 graphics for improved graphical horsepower, a new colour option (an aqua green colour), 3GB of ram and its slightly thinner a 6.9mm. However, this thinness is due to a reduced capacity battery at 2930mAh (milliamp hours). This new version also comes stocked with Android 5.0 Lollipop as standard, but still has Sony’s familiar overlay on top of it.

The other two phones, the M4 Aqua and the C4, are both cheaper variants of the Z4, with smaller screens, smaller batteries and less megapixels in the cameras. However, these phones are seemingly surprisingly good value. With the M4’s price point starting around the $200.00 mark and up, these phones offer good competition for the likes of the Moto G and other cheaper phones within America and Europe; and cheaper phablets from Huawei as well. This being the case as the C4 has a 1080p, 5.5 inch display as well as Android 5.0 and 2GB Ram. What makes this cheaper than the likes of a Note 4 or even a larger Lumia Windows phone, is its cheaper processor, being the primary cost cutting solution Sony needs to keep this in a cheaper price bracket.

All these phones still come with Sony’s PlayStation experience side loaded as well. Meaning, if you own a PlayStation 4 console, you can use your device as a wireless display for the console, providing you’re close to a power point, as this does drain a significant portion of the devices battery.

The M4 and C4 will be available from major phone carriers across Europe and Asia in the coming weeks, as well as all major technology outlets. As for the Z3+, it will be available from all major telcos in June, as well as Sony’s website.
