Samsung to improve camera and battery game

Samsung has been experiencing a lot of competition lately for not only camera performance, but battery life as well. And things could get a lot more interesting by 2017, as Samsung has said that they will develop denser batteries and thinner cameras that could make their way to their future smartphones.

While denser batteries may sound like a bad thing, they are actually a good thing. For example the density of Samsung's current batteries is 700Wh/l (Watt-Hours per litre) and by 2016, that will increase to 750Wh/l and to 780Wh/l by the end of 2017. The batteries will be thinner and have increased battery expectancy. Thus, allowing Samsung to make thinner smartphones without affecting battery life. Samsung also claims that they will increase the voltage of power to 4.40V in the next couple of months, all the way to 4.5V by 2017. With the extra voltage, the batteries could charge to 80% in just 30 minutes. Faster than Qualcomm's fast charging technology currently available today.

And moving on to camera technology, Samsung will reduce the pixel size from 1.12 microns down to 1 micron. That would mean that there will be a 23% decrease in thickness of the sensor from 6.5mm to 5mm. Although that is for a 16mp camera. For a 13mp camera it will reduce from 5.2mm to 4.3mm in length. There is no word yet if the change will affect picture quality, but if it does, Samsung could adapt a technique called "pixel binning" that Nokia and Sony already use. Samsung is working a new camera sensor called RWB (Red White Blue) that should improve color fidelity in certain photos.

Samsung really looks like they want to improve what they are known for, which is a good thing. Even though 2017 is far away, it is shaping to be an excellent year to look forward to.
