OnePlus One summary recap
The OnePlus One smartphone was made available to the public on the 15th of May 2015. Previously you needed an invite to order the phone, this was a good marketing plan because it had created demand for a brand new phone that no one had heard of or knew about.
The phone features a screen size of 5.5 inches which is the same size as the iPhone 6+. The battery is one of the biggest in smartphones, which comes in at 3100 mAh. I got about 7 hours of screen-on time which is amazing. With a SnapDragon 801 processor, this phone has no problem keeping up with daily usage, but i would like it better if it had a SnapDragon 804 or 810.
The performance is great, there is zero lag which is very impressing. The rear facing camera is 13 megapixels which produces very stunning pictures, with this camera you can also shoot 4K. 2 dual LED lights make up the rear flash which produces a very bright light. The front camera is 5 megapixels which is great for the selfie lovers. The front camera is also 80 degrees of viewing so you get a much wider selfie. There is a screen-off feature that allows you to double tap the home screen to turn the screen on. I found this as a useful feature to open the camera or turning the flashlight on. You have the choice for on-screen or off-screen buttons. If you use the on screen buttons there is a little delay in the animation that you don't find on other android devices. Hopefully, OnePlus will have an update to fix this problem.
You want to buy this phone? Well, you've got two options. Your first option is a silk white back with 16GB of internal storage for $249.99 or ₤159, your second choice is a sandstone black with 64GB of internal storage for $299.99 or ₤191 (prices at time of writing). If you pay $50 or ₤32 more you get 48GB more. The smartphone has a removable back but not a removable battery. In the back you have a SIM card slot. The phone runs Cyanogenmod which is based off of Android 5.0, if you choose to you can run the phone on Oxygen OS.
What about the upcoming OnePlus Two? I would personally like to see a quad-HD display, maybe a better processor like the snapdragon 810, dual SIM card slots, a removable battery, and a microSD card slot for expansion if required. One thing they did announce but followed up on very poorly, was swappable backs, i'd definitely like to see more options than just bamboo.
This phone has been dubbed as the “Flagship Destroyer”. First this phone costs half the price of any other flagship from Apple, Samsung, HTC, and Google. Overall, this phone is great for anyone who wants a budget smartphone with high functionality and specs.
