Hoverbikes are coming to the US Army

Everyone has been waiting for the Hoverbike from the chase in Star Wars to become a reality. And that dream is soon to become reality. However, the hoverbikes would be for the US Army, and not for consumers. Mallory Aeronautics has been developing a hoverbike for several years now, even using Kickstarter to get funding. And apparently, the US Department of Defense is interested enough to create a deal for Malloy to develop the hoverbike for the US Army.

There are several reasons why the DoD is looking into hoverbikes, one of the reasons why is the fact that the rotors are guarded, so no-one will get ripped into shreds, and it could be cheaper than a helicopter and it is also more maneuverable in tight situations. The hoverbike could also be controlled autonomously or with a human pilot on board. Malloy told Reuters that the hoverbike would be ideal for cargo delivery missions or search and rescue.

The first step in the deal is to build a full scale model, and then the DoD will take over with the design to make it millitary grade. Malloy Aeronautics will continue making scale models while working with the DoD. Hopefully, consumers will be able to fly around the streets on a hoverbike of their own within the next couple of years.
