Former Apple CEO launches new budget-friendly smartphones

Last year former Apple CEO, John Sculley founded Obi Mobiles. They have just launched two new smartphones which are very budget-friendly, the SF1 and SJ1.5, and they will be priced at $199 and $129 respectively.

They were designed in San Francisco with a unique design. Although they have an extremely small price tag, they’re not cutting any corners when it comes to internals.

The SF1 has a 5-inch full HD display with 443 PPI, a 1.5 GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor with an Adreno 405 GPU. It will come shipped with Android 5.0.2 with Obi’s own skin. The SF1 will have a 13 megapixel rear camera with a LED flash and an Aperture of f/2.0. The front-facing camera also has a flash with 5 megapixels. It’s got Quick Charge 1.0 capabilities, dual sim card slots and a huge 3000 mAh of battery. It comes in two variants, one with 16GB of internal storage with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage with 3GB of RAM. Out of the two devices, the SF1 has to be the most unique because of the elevated screen. It’s got Corning Gorilla Glass 4 with fingerprint protection. With these specs, this phone will definitely be a competitor to phones such as the OnePlus 2.

The cheaper phone, the SJ1.5 has the same 5-inch display but is 720p with 294 PPI. It’s got a 1.3 GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6580. This phone will come with Android 5.1 Lollipop with the custom skin. The rear-facing camera will be 8 megapixels with an Aperture of f/2.2. The front-facing camera is still the same as the SF1 at 5 megapixels. It’s only available in one variant with 16GB of internal storage and 1GB of RAM but there is a micro sd card slot which can hold up to 32GB. It’ll have the same 3000 mAh battery and dual sim card slots.

These look like very impressive phones for their small price point. They’ll be launching it in 12 countries across the world in October. Do you think they’ll be able to perform better than flagship devices?
