The Gear S2 has been leaked and teased for a while now, and all that speculation about Samsung's new flagship smartwatch can be put to rest as the Gear S2 and S2 classic has been announced at IFA 2015 in Berlin, Germany.
Just like the rumors and teasers, there will be two models. There is the Gear S2, which is a sportier and modern looking smartwatch that comes in either a white or gray color with a white strap, while the Gear S2 classic is a more traditional, elegant and classic looking smartwatch with a leather strap.
Both the S2 and the Classic have a 1.2-inch circular display with a resolution of 360x360 and powered by a dual-core 1GHz processor alongside with 512MB of RAM, IP68 water/dust resistance, 802.11 b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC that can be used for mobile payments, accelerometer, gyroscope, heart rate monitor, ambient light and barometer sensors. Like previous rumors claimed, the Gear S2 and Classic have a rotating bezel for better navigation, as long with a home and back button.
Like most recent Samsung wearables, the Gear S2 is running Tizen OS, which means that there won't be as much functionality and apps as Android Wear, but Samsung claims that they are working extra hard to work with developers to get their apps over to Tizen. What is possibly the best part of the Gear S2 and classic is the fact that they both work with other Android devices, not just Samsung's own devices. There is no release date for the S2 and S2 classic, but based on the images, what do you think? Stay tuned to TechDependent, as there is more IFA 2015 coverage to follow!
