During Google I/O 2015, GoPro announced an insane 16-camera setup that records VR (Virtual Reality) videos. At the time, there was no pricing and availability information. But that has since been lifted, as the rig is called Odyssey and costs $15,000 USD. The Odyssey is used for professional content creators who would like to use Google's new platform Jump, which uses 360° Virtual Reality. There are slots for 16 GoPro Hero4 Black cameras on the Odyssey which is then synchronized via Jump Assembler, which compiles the video into a Stereoscopic VR video, which is perfect for VR headsets, and even YouTube.
"Virtual Reality is a promising new innovation with incredible potential for commercial and artistic applications; With Odyssey and Jump, GoPro is encouraging content creators to pioneer the new technology - to capture, edit and share immersive content," said Tony Bates who is the President of GoPro. He went on to say "We already know that GoPro users are soe of the most talented content creators in the world, so we can't wait to see how the professional community will use Odyssey to capture life's most memorable moments in a whole new way."
The Odyssey is only being sold to those who are qualified, which if someone is interested they must apply to the Odyssey Limited Access Program to receive the 16 GoPro's, the GoPro mount with a microphone. There is also a warranty and support program included. To view the Video included, use the AWSD buttons to rotate the video or click and drag if you are viewing on mobile.
