Pixel C - Google's competitor to the Surface

Google announced a high-end competitor to the Surface Pro 3 and iPad Pro yesterday. It’s called the Pixel C, with C standing for convertible. Unlike the previous Pixel Chromebooks, the C is a tablet, with an additional keyboard.

The things worth noting about this tablet are as follows:

The tablet has a classy aluminium design, and it will run 6.0 Marshmallow, just like the other devices announced at yesterday’s event. It should also be able to run at least 2 apps side by side! Google have also promised software updates for the Pixel C at least every 6 weeks.

The device isn’t using a snapdragon processor; Google has instead opted for the Nvidia Tegra X1 chip with Maxwell GPU, along with 3GB of DDR3 RAM, and either 32GB or 64GB of onboard storage.

The screen is going to be 10.2 inches from corner to corner, packing 2560x1800 pixels, for a PPI of 308. Its aspect ratio is√2, which is ‘the metric series ratio used by A series paper’. The Pixel C also follows the trend of having a reversible USB type C charger. Different from anything we’ve seen before, though, is the keyboard: There is no kickstand on the tablet, so the tablet rests on the stand on the keyboard using magnets! This keyboard also charges itself whilst connected to the tablet, and can run ‘with daily use for up to 2 months without a charge.’ It is also worth mentioning that the keyboard connects via Bluetooth, so there are no unsightly connectors on either tablet or keyboard.

The keyboard can also be attached to the back of the tablet when not in use, so that you don’t leave either item behind, but don’t have to worry about carrying two different items, and losing one.

There are stereo speakers on either side of the tablet, so watching movies and listening to music are both very comfortable activities.

This device will, however, set you back by a not-too-bad $499 for the 32GB model, or $599 for the 64GB model. And that’s if you don’t want the keyboard, which will burn a hole the size of $149 in your pocket! The Pixel C isn’t out yet, and we don’t have a confirmed release date. All we’ve been told is to expect it ‘before the holidays’, which means if you’re looking for an expensive present, you needn’t look any further!
