Top 5 Features of the Google Nexus 5X

The brand new Nexus devices were released a couple days ago, with many improvements from the previous Nexus devices. The lower-end device, the Nexus 5X is very similar to Google’s 2013 Nexus 5, so here are 5 features of the 2015 Nexus 5X.

1. Display

The 5X has a 5.2-inch 1080p display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3. Although it’s not as good as the Corning Gorilla Glass 4 found on the 6P, it is good for the price and an improvement from the 2013 Nexus 5.

2. The Camera

Nexus devices haven’t always been the best when it comes to the camera, however, Google and LG have attempted to change that this year. It has a 12.3-megapixel camera with a f/2.0 aperture. At their presentation, they compared it to high-end phones such as the iPhone 6s and it looked pretty good especially in low light conditions. Many smartphone manufacturers have stepped up to 4K video recording and so has Google. It can now shoot 4K video much like Samsung and Apple phones.

3. Android 6.0 Marshmallow

Android 6.0 Marshmallow is the new version of their software and although it wasn’t a huge upgrade from Lollipop, it sure does bring some pretty nice features to the phones. It has the fingerprint scanner support, Doze and Google Now on Tap. Not only is it available for the 5X and 6P, but is also available for the 2013 Nexus 5 and 2014 Nexus 6.

4. Fingerprint Scanner

Fingerprint scanners are getting more and more popular in flagship devices as they are a faster and easier way to get access to your phone. The Nexus Imprint will unlock your device and make purchases through Android Pay and Google Play, but will also make your phone more secure as the new “Nexus Imprint” will get to know you more the more you use it. The 2015 devices are Google’s first attempt at having a fingerprint scanner on their devices.

5. Price

Last year Google released the Nexus 6 which was at a much higher price than what previous Nexus phones were which was a surprise to consumers who liked the small price tag. This year Google has gone for two smartphones which will benefit both audiences with the 5X going for the lower price and the 6P going at a higher price. The Nexus 5X has two variants, the 16GB and the 32GB and both are off contract. The 16GB variant goes for $379 and the 32GB goes for $429. These are relatively cheap for the great specs you are getting, but the 32GB model will be best for most consumers as there is no microSD card support.

The Nexus 5X will be one of the best budget-friendly phones of 2015 without a doubt. These were the top 5 features that the new phone has, however, there are some small features like USB-C.

So will you be picking up the Nexus 5X?
