Oneplus Two worth the upgrade from the Oneplus One?

The Oneplus One came out over a year ago, changing the definition of a budget smartphone. It packed an amazing camera, top of the class CPU package and a beefy 3GB of RAM. Oneplus have recently released the successor - so is it worth the upgrade?

The Oneplus 2 will set you back for just £239 which is the same price as the Oneplus One when it debuted. I think it's nice that Oneplus did not hike up the price. Inside you will find top of the line specifications, such as the Snapdragon 810 V2.1 CPU, 4GB RAM, 13MP laser AF and OIS camera as well as a 5.5inch 1080p display. The predecessor still packs some great specifications such as the Snapdragon 801 CPU, 3GB RAM,13MP camera and the same 5.5inch 1080p display.

The upgrades internally have not dramatically changed. For £239 you are getting a faster CPU, 1GB more RAM and a better camera. Also, it is worth mentioning you also get a fingerprint scanner. The Oneplus One runs Cyanogen Mod while the Oneplus Two runs Hydrogen OS which is a ROM made by Oneplus. There is no denying that Cyanogen Mod is the much better OS, offering more tweaks, customizability and stability. Hydrogen OS is essentially a skinned down version of Cyanogen. The Oneplus 2 also lacks NFC, which in my opinion is very important- especially with android pay becoming more popular.

So is it worth the upgrade? Well, it really depends on you. Personally the lack of Cyanogen Mod and NFC are a deal breaker. The Oneplus One is still a great solid smartphone. I would definitely recommend considering other smartphones such as the Nexus 5X or Moto X Style.
