Dell announced 3 new devices today

Today Dell announced three new laptop devices – the XPS 15, XPS 13 and XPS 12. Let’s take a look into what they’re offering, and how the plan to compete with the competition.

Both the XPS 15 and 13 are super thin and very light and are made from carbon fibre and aluminium. This look is very premium, and should feel great in the hand. The bezels on these devices ought to be mentioned too: Both the 15 and 13 have almost no bezel at the sides of the display, meaning that Dell has been able to chop down on unnecessary size and weight. These almost bezel-less displays, however, do come with a downside – their webcams are in a very awkward position – on the bottom bezel!

Under the hood, both devices have a 6th generation Intel Skylake processor, available in the options of i3, i5 and i7! You can also get up to 16GB of ram and 1TB of ROM! This is some serious horsepower, so even the most intensive activities should be a breeze on these devices.

The displays on both devices are premium as well – we have the option for a 4K screen on the XPS 15, and a Quad-HD display on the 13. All 3 of the new devices will come with USB-C connectors, and pretty large batteries, with Dell claiming that the XPS 15 can get up to 16 hours of use from one charge, and the 13 can get a slightly better 18 hours from a single charge.

The third device, the XPS 12, seems to be Dell’s competitor to the new Surface, announced just a couple of days ago. It is a hybrid between a tablet and laptop, much like the surface, and a premium keyboard made for it, with a precision touchpad and 1.9mm of travel between the keys.

Like the new surface, Dell wasn’t a fan of a physical connector for the keyboard, so they’ve opted to make their keyboard work by just putting it into the slot in the keyboard and letting it slide into place.

The tablet offers a Full-HD display, upgradable to 4K if desired, and an 8MP back shooter alongside a 5MP selfie shooter. The device doesn’t come with a pen/stylus, but it is still compatible with Dell Pen Active. It also comes with two USB 3.0 Type-C connectors for charging and using peripherals as and when needed.

The XPS 12 will have two variants, a model with a Full-HD Display, 128GB of ROM, 8GB RAM and a 2.7GHz Intel core m5-6Y54 processor, and a model sporting a 4K display and 256GB ROM , with the same RAM and processor.

The new XPS 13 Will be hitting the shelves at a price range of £849-1349, and the XPS 15 ranging from £1099 to £1799, all depending on what internals you want.

The XPS 12 Doesn’t look to be available to buy in the UK as of now, but in the US, it is launching Mid-November for $999 (for the Full-HD model), with a keyboard and protective case in the deal as well.
