HTC One A9 is official

HTC has been struggling over the last year especially due to the disappointing HTC One M9 and M9+. However, with their new device, the HTC One A9, HTC hope to turn around their One portfolio...

The A9 will be the first non-Nexus device to boot Android Marshmallow out the box, bringing a host of new features such as "Now On Tap" and "Doze". HTC's sense software is onboard - Sense 7 being the highlight.

HTC clearly got their inspiration from the most popular smartphone- the iPhone 6. From the unibody metal design, slim profile and chamfered corners this device will remind you of an Apple product - well, from the pictures anyway. That being said, the HTC A9 tips the scales at 143g and measures in at 7.26mm thick.

Internals in the HTC A9 places this smartphone in the mid-range to high-range tier. Inside is the new Snapdragon 617 CPU (which is an eight- core 1.5GHz chipset), 2GB RAM, 5.0" 1080p AMOLED display, 13MP camera and a 4 UltraPixel selfie shooter. There will also be a micro SD card slot for expansion up to 2TB (although only 512GB are available on an SD card right now)! There is also a handy fingerprint scanner on the home button of the device for added sercurity.

In the battery department, there is a rather small 2150mAh battery at the show. Although the battery is rather small, HTC has promised great battery life with 16hrs of talk time and up to 18 days of standby. This is probably thanks to the power efficient CPU and Android's Marshmallows Doze feature. The HTC A9 will also support Qualcomm's Quick Charge 3.0 capabilities

In the camera department, HTC has opted for a 13MP sensor with F/2.0 aperture and OIS onboard. On paper, this should lead to better low-light photos and smoother videos. The back camera can only record in 1080p due to the lack of computing power from the Snapdragon 617. For the front camera, HTC has decided to go with their 4 Ultra Pixel sensor. Alongside with the new camera hardware, HTC has also updated their camera application bringing new features including RAW Capture, HDR and hyperlapse.

HTC has promised quick and speedy Android Updates which sound very promising. They have stated that the HTC A9 will receive software updates within 15 days from Nexus devices receiving them. This sounds great and if HTC can really hold to their promise then the HTC A9 will be a great mid-range contender.

As for pricing, the HTC A9 will set you back for £429, which is not too bad considering the hardware and specs. What do you think?
