Google patents a new, weird looking Glass headset

Google recently cancelled the Glass Explorer project indefinitely, but it looks like they will soon have something new on their hands, as a new design has been patented earlier this week. The design almost looks like an old-fashioned monocle, with the lens itself affixed to the user's head, while the band containing the internals would be flexible for better positioning. According to the patent description, the "wearable device with input and output structures" would again be user adjustable and only be positioned on one side of the user's face. This is different than the original design, which resembled a pair of thin metal glasses that could come with our without lenses.

As mentioned above, Google discontinued the Glass project earlier this year. But the project was revived because of Project Ara being shut down indefinitely. The reason being is so Google can create a successor or multiple successors to Glass. There was a report earlier this month that claimed that Google was working on three different prototypes of Glass, including a "sport" model, as well as a more traditional looking smart-glass design for enterprise users. Whether or not the patent or reported models will make it to production is yet to be seen. What do you think of the new design, weigh in the comments below or any of our social media pages.
