This iPhone case makes VR accessible for everyone
Virtual Reality or VR is is slowly making a rise in popularity. Mainly due to Google's successful Cardboard VR headset, which only costs $5USD. However, the headset is cheap and not that sturdy. Sure, there are other options available but they do cost a lot more money and are often bigger or clunkier plus sometimes are specifically made for certain devices. Luckily, There is a new case that is made for iPhones that would allow the user to experience VR with just a push of a button.
Figment, which recently launched on Kickstarter is an iPhone case that with a simple slide of two toggles, which is found on the back it will turn into a fully functional VR headset. There could only be one downside to the headset, and that is the fact that it allows the user to experience VR in a more open environment, which allows more light to show, instead of a closed environment, which allows less light to shine in and offers a more premium experience. According to Zi Wang, who created Figment, that won't be an issue because the user would still have their peripheral vision which should lead to less motion sickness. Plus with the open concept, the user would have direct access to the screen. Finally, the open design would allow the user to position the case easier to fit different size noses, which is a rarity when it comes to VR headsets.
Wang later went on to say that "This let's you experience VR in a much more casual way ... There's no setup; you can just fire it up and say to your friend 'Hey, check this out.'" The only downside here could be the price. The Figment will set you back $79USD. It will come in either a white or black colour, and will accommodate an iPhone 6/6+ and up. Wang also said that he isn't ruling Android cases out yet, he just decided to go with iPhones first. The cases should start to ship out to backers in early spring of 2016.
