2016's first Cartridge-based gaming console

Coleco is well-known for its classic and iconic games – and now they’re planning a return. The gaming company has a new partnership with Retro Video Game Systems. But what are they cooking up?

This is the Coleco Chameleon, a cartridge-based games console. “A versatile new video game system that serves as a modern day take on the classic game console.” Aimed at allowing gamers to enjoy 8-bit, 16-bit, and 32-bit games; which Coleco believes is a “growing and popular genre” in the gaming world.

Basically, all the Coleco Chameleon does is play cartridge games. This makes it the first games console in about 20 years to be able to do this. It sounds like a little tribute to the good times of the past. After all, the original ColecoVision console was released back in 1982.

At the current time, there’s no news on the price tag of the Chameleon console, but developers on Twitter said that “it will be significantly more affordable than the first go-around.” The console will be in stores around about early 2016, and will also be presented at the Toy Fair New York in February next year.
