Xiaomi's latest Redmi 3 smartphone specs

Xiaomi has officially revealed its latest budget smartphone, the Xiaomi Redmi 3.

The Redmi 3 is Xiaomi's latest offering in the low-end market and it acts as the successor to the company's highly praised Redmi 2.

Design wise, the front of the device features a large, black glass panel, giving it a sophisticated, yet simplistic design, similar to that of the iPhone 6. The only noticeable features, other than the screen, are the three capacitive touch buttons that sit directly underneath it.

On the rear, it is clear that the overall simplistic design has been carried over. The rear is made out of a single piece of aluminium and appears to have a grid-like design imprinted into it. At the bottom, a wide speaker grill is featured, while at the top sits the new camera sensor alongside the flash. The device will be available in three different colours: Gray, Space Gray and Gold. The Redmi 3 is 8.5mm thick and weighs in at 144g.

Moving on to specs, the device features a 5-inch display, with a 720x1280p resolution (Full-HD) and a pixel density of 294ppi. On the inside, an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 616 processor, clocked at 1.5GHz, is featured, alongside the Adreno 405 GPU and 2GB of RAM. Also featured is 16GB of internal storage, which is quite generous considering the price, though it can still be expanded via microSD in case you feel that 16GB isn't quite enough. Other features include Bluetooth 4.1, NFC, 4G LTE and a very generous 4100mAh battery to keep the display on, which should easily provide a full 48hrs of battery life.

Regarding the cameras, a 13MP sensor with f/2.2 aperture is featured on the rear, equipped with phase-detection autofocus and an LED Flash. On the front, a standard 5MP selfie sensor is featured.

Finally, the device comes running MIUI 7.0, based on Android 5.1 Lollipop, straight out of the box. If you are interested in the device, you will be pleased to know that it will be made available from tommorow, at both Mi.com or Tmall, for the very low price of RMB 699 ($107).
