UMI Iron Pro: First impressions and specs

Budget smartphones have been rising a lot recently, and when you think of budget smartphones, you think of Chinese phones. The chinese smartphone industry is growing a lot, and it was my time to purchase one. After a lot of research, this was the one with the best specs. Let's get into it.

With a massive 5.5 inch 1080p LCD screen, I was expecting good video performance. As I watch a lot of videos, I definitely wanted a decent screen. I also want my phone to perform well. The UMI iron pro has an octa-core with 3gb ROM. I like taking pictures, and loads of them. The UMI iron pro has a 13 mp back camera, which is claimed to be a "sony" camera. As I don't care about selfies that much the 5 mp front cam is just a little gift.

When I received my package from Amazon it arrived 5 days before the first arrival date would be. In the package were 4 smaller packages. The first one was a European to British plug converter, the second little package was a British quick charging power brick for a USB cable and the 2nd to last package was a little phone stand from the company: "KMoon". The last package was the phone itself. The box is a neat and professional box which is about 18cm x 17.5cm x 2.5cm. The box contained a 5V and 1A power brick, a USB type-c cable, a sim card tool, a quick start guide and the phone itself.

After taking the phone out of the packaging, there was an ugly screen protector on it that didn't look good at all. I started the phone and it had some power, around 60% battery. The phone was a bit laggy during the setup but afterwards there were no problems at all. The phone runs smoothly and the display is definitely 1080p. Video plays well and the camera is decent. You can do a lot of multitasking because of the mega 3gb of ram and the gaming performance is very good (so far i have tested). I don't have experience with USB type-C but it works fine and the battery lasts a good day with medium to heavy usage.

There are two things that are disappointing, the rear speaker and the fingerprint scanner. The rear speaker sounds tinny and the sound quality is bad. The fingerprint scanner was rumoured to be really fast and work under all circumstances but it doesn't. It works but minimal, about 50% of the time. You have to place your finger in the exact spot you scanned it. You can also only add five fingerprints. The location of the fingerprint scanner on the back is perfect though.

So basically, if you want a good phone with a really high performance, the UMI iron pro is the phone for you, but if you are expecting a really good fingerprint scanner and a good speaker don't go for this phone. I would recommend it though because it is the best bang for your bucks at only $180 on Amazon. Go for the silver version as it looks way better than the black one. Also, keep in mind that it is hard to find a case and screen protector for this phone.
