Will HTC produce two Nexus devices this year?
HTC was the original manufacturer behind the very first Nexus device, and was even the manufacturer behind the first Android-based device. Since then, the company has become known for their premium builds and has even gone on to produce another Nexus device, the Nexus 9 tablet. According to the latest rumour though, the company will once again be the manufacturer behind a pair of Nexus devices this year.
A report claims that the company will manufacturer two separate smartphones, one with a 5-inch display, and another with a larger 5.5-inch display, possibly in the hope of turning HTC around, or at least trying to. If the rumour about a pair of devices is true though, two smartphones isn't the only possibility. Google could ask the company to make a smartphone, acting as the successor to the Nexus 6P, and a tablet, which would act as the successor to HTC's own Nexus 9.
These two combinations are the most likely from the company, but there could also be a more original third possibility. The company could produce a Nexus phone and smartwatch, possibly a fitness one, maybe even in partnership with Under Armour, in the hope of leading the way in smartwatch technology and setting an example for other companies . This last one, though interesting, is unfortunately highly unlikely.
Overall, a pair of Nexus devices could be just what HTC needs to restore some of its reputation, after what has been a very tough year for the company. Last year's One M9 faced a lot of tough competition and criticism, and the company's reputation wasn't helped later on in the year when they launched a device that looked suspiciously like an iPhone 6.
Recently though, the company did reveal that, in the future, it will be focusing more on VR than on smartphones, so we'd recommend taking this rumour with a pinch of salt.
