Netflix passes 75 million subscribers thanks to international growth

Netflix has just had another successful quarter. In Q4 for 2015, they reported $1.83 billion in revenue and $43 million profit, sending share prices up by seven percent in after-hours trading.

The revenue figures are impressing, but Netflix now has 75 million subscribers worldwide. Although 45 million are from the United States, they saw international growth in Q4 last year. From the 5.59 million new subscribers, 4.04 million weren't from the US, compared to the 1.56 that were.

Netflix also repeated its plan to increase the cost of the standard streaming package by $1 or $2. The company already updated the pricing structure for new users last year, but in a few months, they will make everyone pay $9.99 for HD streaming. Non-HD streaming will still cost the same at $7.99, and family sharing and Ultra HD will cost $11.99.

Netflix isn't just going to take the extra money from the increased subscription costs, but in 2016, they will be adding around 600 hours of original content to the Netflix library. This will include new seasons of nearly all of their popular TV shows, and also some brand new content.

In the first quarter of 2016, Netflix will include numbers from the extra 130 countries that were granted access earlier this month. Netflix has also begun being more strict with users who ignore geo-restrictions. This might have an effect on some international users who have a subscription.
