Google paid $1Billion dollars to be Apple's default search engine

Ever wondered why your Apple device's default search engine is always Google? That's no coincidence as Google Inc has reportedly paid an astonishing $1 billion US dollars or 700,599,030 pounds to make it your primary search engine on your Apple device.

The acknowledgement came during an unrelated court case between Oracle and Google. According to Bloomberg News, documents show that Google paid 1 billion dollars in 2014 to be the default search engine on Apple's devices. Apple and Google split the profits made on the search ads.

Both Google and Apple desperately tried to get the court to strike the details of their search deal from court documents, which clearly revealed the huge financial benefits each company enjoyed every time you click to Google something on your phone.

On January 20 Google said in a short message “The specific financial terms of Google's agreement with Apple are highly sensitive to both Google and Apple."

Oracle has been suing Google since 2010 over claims that the search engine company used its Java software without paying for it to developed. The case has returned to U.S. District Judge William Alsup in San Francisco after a pit stop at the U.S. Supreme Court, where Google lost a bid to derail the case. The damages Oracle now seeks may exceed $1 billion since it expanded its claims to cover newer Android versions.
