Snapchat screenshots show new audio and video calling features
It’s no secret that Snapchat is growing quickly and is one of the latest trends when it comes to social media. According to a number of reports, the app has seen a large amount of growth over the past year in video views and is quickly closing in on Facebook. Snapchat obviously knows this and, according to the latest leak, is preparing to capitalize on this as best as it can.
The way it will do this is by introducing a couple of new features, as well as including a UI update. These new features will allegedly come in the form of audio and video calling, which is relatively uncharted territory for the app, considering that, up until now, they have only offered the ability to record 10 second videos.
These new calling features are also coupled with a few interface additions, such as watching/listening indicators, so you’ll always know when the recipient is getting your messages.
Aside from the new video and audio calling features though, it’s suggested that the company will also be introducing support for stickers in the new chat UI, similar to what is offered by the likes of Facebook Messenger or Line.
If all these new additions are true, this would pit Snapchat as a direct competitor to some of the biggest names in the market, such as Viber and Skype – experts in audio and video calling – and possibly even as a competitor to Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp and Line – experts in audio calls and messaging.
