Microsoft recalls Surface Pro power cables due to overheating problems

If you or someone you know has a Microsoft Surface Pro, Surface Pro 2 or Surface Pro 3, you might want to let them know that Microsoft has begun to recall power connectors tied to those devices, because of overheating concerns. According to Channelnomics Europe, Microsoft will issue a recall for those devices mentioned above that were sold before July 2015. Microsoft later confirms that report in a statement, posted below.

"As a result of damage caused by AC power cords being wound too tightly, twisted or pinched over an extended period of time, a very small proportion of Surface Pro customers have reported issues with their AC power cord. We will be releasing details of how customers can obtain a free replacement cable shortly."

Microsoft is planning on issuing free power cord replacements to those affected. A Microsoft spokesperson later commented that "This will be a worldwide voluntary recall." He did not, however, comment on how many devices are affected. It is important to note that the Surface Pro 4 tablet has not been affected by this recall.
