Asus's new portable monitor is the first with USB-C support

The new USB-C connector is getting a lot of buzz at CES 2016, and that continues with Asus as they have just released the world's first portable monitor with the new connection. The MB169+ is based on the USB 3.0 MB168B+ model, but this time, the monitor has a USB-C port instead of a USB 3.0 connection. The monitor has a 15.6-inch screen and only weighs in at around 800-grams. There is a slight bump in thickness to 8.5mm, instead of 8.0mm. Another noticeable change is the fact that the display gets changed to a IPS panel, instead of the TN panel built into the older model. That is actually a good thing, as you'll get more vibrant and richer colors, plus better viewing angles.

The monitor will work with any USB-C connector, which includes the Nokia N1 tablet, Apple's new Macbook and the Chromebook Pixel. There is no confirmation on pricing or availability, but it should cost somewhere between $200 and $300. It is important to note that the monitor is not backwards-compatible with older models, because of USB-C's new design. Stay Tuned to TechDependent for more CES 2016 coverage.
