HP updates the Spectre x360 with a 4K screen at CES 2016

The Spectre x360 has been one of HP's best selling convertible laptop models, and now they're back at CES 2016 with an upgrade that would make the laptop more useful. First up, HP is going to sell an additional model with a screen that is 15.6-inches big, alongside the 13.3-inch screen. The 15.6-inch screen model will get a resolution boost at 3,820 x 2,160, which is 4K. For those of you who do the math, that's over 8 million pixels to power. To help aid that, HP increased the specifications of the laptop to include Intel's new Iris graphics and up to 16GB of RAM. While the 13-inch model uses Bang & Olufsen's speakers, the 15-inch model's sound system gets upgraded to a four-speaker setup.

HP claims that the 15-inch model is world's thinnest and lightest, at only 15.9mm thick and weighing at only 4 pounds. The battery will last up to 9.5 hours with the 4K display, or 13 hours if you opt for the 1080p panel. HP also refreshed their smaller 13-inch model with Intel's newest Core processors and also gains an option for an OLED panel, which is the first for any convertible. The OLED panel has a 103 percent color gamut whereas the non-OLED panel has a 72 percent color gamut. The OLED panel also means that the contract would be deeper, as well. And since OLED panels are thinner than traditional panels, the device would be 0.11 pounds lighter.

Finally, HP also updated their Pavilion x2 tablet hybrid, which is updated with a bigger screen, at 12.1-inches instead of the old model's 10.1-inch screen. The keyboard magnetically attaches this time, instead of attaching via a latch mechanism. The tablet can get on the heavy side with the dock attached, as it will with 3.23 pounds. Without the tablet docked, it only weighs 1.6 pounds. Specifications of the Pavilion x2 tablet include a 1080p display, Intel Atom processors for the base model, and Intel Core M processors for the higher-end models.

HP's 15.6-inch Spectre x360 will be available on February 14th with a starting price of $1,149 for the 1080p panel, no word on pricing for the 4K panel. The 13-inch screen model with the OLED display will arrive sometime in spring, but no exact word on pricing or date. The 12-inch Pavilion x2 will be available on February 7th, starting at $500 and up. Stay tuned to TechDependent for more CES 2016 coverage.
