HTC updates their Vive VR headset with their second model, the Vive Pre

HTC first announced their Vive Virtual Reality (VR) headset back at MWC 2015 and has been one of the world's best VR headsets around, thanks to their partnership with Steam. Now, they're back at CES 2016 with their second edition of the headset, called Vive Pre. The Pre continues on what the Vive started, this time the headset is smaller and has improved visuals and a new design. There is one major addition, a front facing camera.

the Vive is lighter and less bulky than the previous version, with improved straps and interchangeable foam inserts to fit a wider variety of faces. There is also improved visual clarity, thanks to a display tech upgrade that brings brighter screens with smoother motions. There is also a front-facing camera, this time around, which uses the "chaperone" system, which can highlight real objects in the virtual world. this will allow the user to interact with objects and/or other people, as well as avoiding, hitting or tripping over obstacles.

The Vive also has new controllers, which have a more ergonomic design, new two-stage triggers and softer edges. Haptic feedback is also included, which should allow VR users to interact with the virtual world more easily. The new controllers are easier to charge, since they charge over MicroUSB, and can have up to four hours of play time per charge, according to HTC.

HTC's Vive was supposed to launch in late 2015, but now HTC claims that the Vive will launch commercially in April. HTC is also partnering up with 15 new partners, in which they are showing off their Viva applications at CES this week. HTC is planning on shipping 7,000 units to developers, so we'll see a lot more applications for the VR headset sometime later this year. Stay Tuned to TechDependent for more CES 2016 coverage.
