Samsung has some new SUHD TV's with improved picture quality

Samsung at CES 2016 hasn't spent the whole show talking about their new OLED HDR 4K TV's. But alas, they still have announced updated versions of their top of the line SUHD TV's with better picture quality.

The TV's still have their Quantum dot screens but they will also get HDR support that has 1,000 nits of contrast between light and dark images. Samsung is also using a new technology called Ultra Black, which "absorbs natural light the same way [as] a moth's eye" does, which provides deeper blacks with less glare. There is still the curved screen model, alongside the minimal bezels that are on the KS9500 SUHD model. Samsung's SmartHub menu has also been redesigned, with makes it easier to jump from Live TV to OTT or games. You can even set your favorite TV channels and programs as soon as you set it up.

Samsung also updated their SmartView mobile application so it can now work on any PC, Android device, and iOS device, so it is no longer only a Galaxy specific feature. Popular streaming apps like Crackle, Plex and Vimeo support it as well, so now you can easily share content between family members through the SmartView platform. Samsung also increased the number of Playstation Now downloadable games to 500. Some titles include Assassin's Creed II and Batman: Arkham Origins. However, you still need a DualShock 4 controller to play the games. Samsung is also expanding the amount of 4K content that is available, as well as making it easier to find on YouTube, Netflix and other apps. Finally, Samsung also announced the support for their smart home connectivity with their SmartThings standard. It'll work with Samsung's new appliances they have announced at CES this year, as well as other third-party products.

Samsung also updated their UBD-K8500 Ultra-HD Blu-Ray drive which now supports HDR and better colors, which will play well with Samsung's new quantum dot displays. It will be available for pre-order sometime around March 2016.

Mum's the word on pricing and availability details, but that should be coming within the next couple of months. Stay tuned to TechDependent for more CES 2016 coverage. To see all of our coverage, use the CES 2016 tags and/or category.
