3D, VR and spherical centric videos are starting to become a hit, as they have been supported on Facebook and Youtube, plus other social media sites for a while now, and Kodak announces the successor to the SP360, which now has the option to shoot in 4K as well as 360 videos, with a catch.

The action camera has a 12.4-megapixel sensor with a dome lens that has a 235-degree field of view. There are two modes to the camera. "Global" mode allows the camera to capture an almost spherical image 360-degress horizontally and 235-degrees vertically. "Front" mode allows for a more traditional wide-angle style panorama in a 16:9 aspect ratio.

The Global footage comes in a 1:1 aspect ratio that has a maximum resolution of 2880 x 2880 and 30 frames per second. Front mode has the 4K resolution support at 3480 x 2160. However, there is the aforementioned catch, which is you need two of these cameras to capture a true spherical and VR-friendly video. Thankfully, Kodak will be selling a double-pack which comes with a dual camera mount and software to stitch the two camera's videos together. There is also WiFi connectivity that is built into the camera, which allows the user to use the camera remotely on either an Android or iOS device.

A single camera will cost $499, while the double pack will cost $899. Shipping information unfortunately, not available yet. Stay tuned to TechDependent for more CES 2016 coverage. To see all of our CES 2016 coverage, use the CES 2016 category and/or tags.
