Twitter, the popular social media service has had an application for Mac's for a while now, but it offered less features than other 3rd-party applications and even the online web-browser. Well now, that all changed as Twitter rolled out version 4.0.0, that offers a lot more features that will make the experience more enjoyable.

Some noticeable features included the update is GIF support, group direct messages, Highlights, and the option to quote a tweet while adding your own opinion. Additionally, users can now mute specific accounts, videos will now play straight in the users timeline. In terms of layout and design, there is a new updated layout that includes a new dark theme.

Twitter earlier this year introduced a nifty feature called polls, which lets the user create a 24-hour poll that can have up to four categories. Unfortunately, the feature is not included in this update. If you have any suggestions for the app, email Twitter at mac-feedback@twitter.com. It is important to mention that the app only gets updated roughly once per year. As a failsafe, there are other 3rd-party alternatives to Twitters mac app, such as TweetDeck.
