Two year contracts will be a thing of the past at AT&T

AT&T has been slowly trying to switch customers to use their next program, instead of having them be on two-year contracts. Well, that day has come, as AT&T will finally get rid of the two-year contracts starting early 2016. First reported by Engadget, AT&T will no longer offer two-year contracts and will instead have costumers use their Next installment plan, or to buy the devices outright. AT&T later confirmed the news to The Verge. In a statement, AT&T said

"With $0 down for well-qualified customers, the ability to upgrade early and down payment options available with even lower monthly installments, our costumers are overwhelmingly choosing AT&T Next. Starting January 8, AT&T Next will be the primary way to get a new smartphone at AT&T. This does not apply to business costumers under a qualified wireless service agreement."

As mentioned above, corporate accounts will be able to continue to use the traditional two-year contract upgrades. Earlier this year, AT&T's third-party resellers have stopped offering the two year contracts, which left costumers who want two-year contracts to either go inside a corperate store or online. Two-year contracts were the most common wireless service plan a few years ago, but with T-Mobile the first to ditch the plan, other wireless carriers have done the same.
