Brand-new WiFi takes us into the future
Now that the WiFi Alliance has confirmed 802.11ah WiFi standard, we can expect to enjoy more access range for less power. The long-awaited "HaLow" WiFi standard is intended to connect devices in an average home.
Devices that are approved to be compatible will utilise the unlicensed 900MHz band. This band now uses less power, and has twice the range of the 2.4GHz standard at the current time.
Nowadays, people are making their homes smarter, and this means that devices such as connected light bulbs, and door sensors require high quantities of power to properly operate and advance data to long distances and devices. Thanks to this all-new WiFi standard, life becomes easier.
HaLow will "broadly adopt existing WiFi protocols," The WiFi Alliance stated. We should be expecting features like IP connectivity, this means that devices will consist of the regular WiFi-grade security and several other elements. Many more new products will also utilise the regular 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands.
Now that the world has been introduced to this new platform of WiFi, the future promises us a lot of new 900MHz-enabled devices. The WiFi Alliance also stated that this new standard “will enable a variety of new power-efficient use cases” in multiple areas of smarter and environmentally-friendly technology. What do you think about this and what other features do you want to see in the future?
