Amazon's Dash is built into some of Whirlpool's new appliances
Amazon first launched the Dash on Aprils fools day last year, even though it wasn't a joke. Then back in October, Amazon partnered with a slew of companies to eventually incorporate the Dash into some of their products. The Dash is essentially a Wi-Fi enabled smart-button where you could order things like printer ink, pet food and detergent with just a push of the button. This process is called Dash Replenishment Service. Now, Whirlpool is the first company to step up to the table and offer Amazon's Dash smart-button.
Amazon's Dash Replenishment Service will be included into Whirlpools mobile Smart Kitchen Suite app, which is available on both Android and iOS. The app would allow users to buy regularly used items with one click from the user's mobile device. The app will also directly connect to a bunch of Smart appliances that Whirlpool is showcasing this week at CES, including a new top-loading washer and dryer and a connected dishwasher. The smart appliances will be able to calculate how many load cycles the user has done since their last order of detergent, and will prompt them when it is time to buy some more. Additionally, the app will tell the machines to activate various modes, such as quiet mode for washing clothes at night, and "wrinkle shield" for when the user is away and doesn't want their clothes to be in a pile when they get home.
The settings can be triggered manually or automatically through Whirlpools Smart Kitchen Suite's Nest integration, which was added to their washer and dryer models last year. However, with the new appliances, the Nest can tell the machines to activate their energy-saving and anti-wrinkle settings when the user is using the "away" setting on their Nest.
