Parrot launches a new drone with a different design

The drone has had a standard design for quite some time now. There are four rotors in the shape if a quadcopter in which the drone uses to take off and fly around on. Well, Parrot is trying to shake thing up with their new drone announced at CES 2016.

The Disco is their new drone and it uses a fixed-wing design instead of the traditional quadcopter design. It is important to mention however that the Disco is still in the prototype phase, and the pricing and availability is up in the air at this point of time. To get the Disco ready for flying all you have to do is just give it a shake to get the motor started. Then just throw it in the air. The drone will automatically rake flight and will adopt a circular holding pattern until you're ready to take control.

You'll be able to control the drone and the camera through Parrot's Skycontroller and FreeFlight 3 app. Additionally, the camera onboard the Disco is the same model that is used on the BeBop drone, to capture and record and/or stream video. There is the option to connect FPV (first-person view) glasses to the drone for a more immersive experience. It also supports standard RC controllers, if you're the person who doesn't need all the extra features. You can reach top speeds at around 50MPH and a flying radius of around 1.25 miles. The rechargeable battery will last about 45 minutes on a charge, and charging it from zero percent should only take about an hour. The wings can be removed for extra portability, and the can be replaced if they are broken.

The Disco also has a slew of sensors, from Gyroscope, altimeter, magnetometer, airspeed pitot and more, that is used for gauging speed and distance from the ground, which helps by stabilising flight and helps it perform various tricks and helps make landing a lot easier.
