Google is pushing out the latest update to its Android Wear platform, version 1.4, and it actually brings a number of big updates.
Only this morning was it that Google updated its device pages to include “built-in speaker” as a feature on eligible smartwatches, and now the company has confirmed that speakers are now officially supported by the platform. Devices such as Huawei Watch or the 49mm version of the Asus ZenWatch 2, which both have built-in speakers, will now be able to take advantage of them through the newly added calls features, allowing you to make or receive calls straight from your wrist or. As well as this, if you use an app like Glide, you will also be able to listen to audio messages following this update.
Aside from call and speaker support though, Google has also included a number of new gestures in the hope of making it easier to navigate an Android Wear watch. With a flick of the wrist, you will now be able to scroll up or down through your card stream. You can also push to expand cards, shake to return to the watch face or bring up your apps by lifting.
As well as these new gestures, the update also comes with a new voice command update, allowing you to send messages through apps such as Hangouts, Telegram, Viber, WeChat and, of course, WhatsApp – all you have to do is say “OK Google, send a WhatsApp message to Jake: I’ll be at your place in 15 minutes.”
This update is coming to all Android Wear watches over the next few weeks, but, unless you own a smartwatch with a built-in speaker, you unfortunately won’t be able to take advantage of the new calling feature. What do you think of the update? Let us know in the comments below!
