Apple recalls certain USB-C cables

If you or someone you know has either bought Apple's new Macbook or a new USB-C connector, you should take it into Apple to get it replaced as soon as you can. The reason being, Apple has just recalled the cables and launched a worldwide replacement program. The affected cables have been shipped between the dates of April and June 8th of last year. As mentioned above, the affected cables have been sold with Apple's new, thin MacBook as well as separately. According to Apple, the reason the cable has been recalled is due to a possibility for the cable to fail without warning, due to a design flaw. Also according to Apple, "As a result, your MacBook may not charge or only charge intermittently when it's connected to a power adapter with an affected cable,"

Apple has since corrected the mistake, and they have been selling fixed USB-C cables for months now. However, if you have bought a Macbook early on, it might be worth checking. Apple will replace your cable by the end of the month if you set up your mailing address when you registered your MacBook. If not, you can set up a Genius Bar reservation, visit a local authorised service provider, or contact Apple customer support. To find out if your cable is affected, use the image below.
