Apple's new TV Remote app will feature trackpad gestures

Apple has already announced plans for a new Apple TV remote app that will support Siri for voice controls. Now, it will get another useful feature to make it easier to control your TV with your Apple device.

According to Eddie Cue and Craig Federighi, Apple executives, the approaching app will offer gesture controls that will work like the new remote's touchpad. Published on Friday, Federighi explained in an interview with Daring Fireball, "The trackpad function of the remote can be done with your phone now too with that remote so it's really a full replacement."

The gesture controls will work with tvOS which will make it easier to play multiplayer games on the newest generation Apple TV. Eddie Cue said, "You can use the Apple TV for one person and their phone for the second person."

Apple's chief for software and services also confirmed the app will arrive in the next few months, implying it will be released in the first half of 2016. This report sounds like a big upgrade from the current app which is only useful for entering text.
