New LG X series will debut at MWC

LG has announced that it will unveil a new mid-range series to be known as LG X at MWC next week. The first devices to form part of this new series are the LG X Cam and LG X Screen, which are camera and screen focused respectively.

Design and Display

The company says that both are "are designed for customers who do not want or need all the bells and whistles that come with today's high-end phones but still desire a great camera or advanced display."

Both phones feature relatively minimal designs, with large glass panels on the front that feature the “LG” logo underneath the displays and the typical in-ear speaker and front-facing camera sitting above it. Unfortunately, images of the rear of the devices have not been provided as of yet, most likely due to the fact that the X Cam model features the same dual-camera setup on the rear as the G5, which LG obviously wants to keep under wraps until the device is made official this Sunday. The LG X Cam weighs in at 118g but the weight of the X Screen hasn’t been revealed yet. Regarding thickness, the X Cam is 6.9mm thick at its thickest point, while the X Screen is slightly thicker at 7.1mm. Both devices will be made available in a range of colours, specifically Titan Silver, White, Gold and Pink Gold for the X Cam and Black White and Pink Gold for the X Screen.

Moving on to the display, the X Cam features a large 5.2-inch display with a 1080x1920p resolution, giving it a pixel density of 424ppi. The X Screen, on the other hand, features a slightly smaller 4.93-inch display with a 1080x1920p resolution, though it’s worth noting that it also features a smaller 1.79-inch secondary display, similar to the one seen on the V10, which will allow users to access frequently used apps, as well as check the time and date, battery and other notifications.

Processor and Memory

On the inside of the X Cam, an unknown 1.14GHz octa-core processor is featured along with 2GB of RAM. Regarding internal memory, the device will be available with 16GB of storage.

Regarding the X Screen, another unknown processor is featured, though this time it’s a quad-core setup and is clocked at 1.2GHz. This is coupled with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage, just like the X Cam.

Camera

This is where things get interesting for the X Cam, because it features a similar setup to the one expected to be found on the G5, with a dual-camera setup on the rear, specifically a 13MP sensor and a secondary 5MP one, while on the front, a generous 8MP selfie sensor is featured. As of now, no specific uses have been revealed for the dual-camera setup, though wide-angle photos are probably one of them. Anyhow, expect LG to provide more details this Sunday at its press conference.

Regarding the X Screen, it features a 13MP rear camera and an 8MP selfie sensor.

Additional Features & Software

Both devices feature support for NFC, Bluetooth 4.1 and 4G LTE. Regarding the battery, the X Cam features a 2520mAh battery, while the X Screen features a smaller 2300mAh battery.

Moving on to software, both devices come running Android 6.0. Marshmallow straight out of the box – giving users access to Google Now On Tap – with LG’s custom UI overlay on top.

Pricing & Release

LG has revealed that both devices will be made available starting next month in a number of European, Asian and Latin American markets, though specific pricing has not been detailed as of yet.

It's highly likely that LG will reveal more details regarding these devices at its press conference this weekend, so be sure to stay tuned to the site and we will update this post with any details as they are announced.
