This is FlexEnable's futuristic OLCD flexible display
Flexible tech and curved screens are becoming the one of the main intentions for the future of technology. Companies such as FlexEnable at MWC 2016 are also getting involved in shaping the future.
The English company, which has never entered the consumer electronics industry, has arrived in Barcelona to boast their concept piece of hardware to potential consumers and organisations interested in developing the technology. FlexEnable have stated that their new product is all set and ready for reality, as they are apparently discussing possible partnerships with various hardware companies (currently unidentified). Paul Cain, a representative of the company believes that the fully-fledged wristband technology will be out on the market within eighteen months.
Let’s talk about the science involved; the device will utilise plastic transistors in order to become properly flexible, and this creates the OLCD (organic liquid crystal display). The company stated that the OLCD screens are able to cook up similar resolutions to regular LCD screens, using the same amount of power – and don’t forget that they have the extra feature of flexibility. The plastic transistors have the ability of being wrapped and bent around any material. FlexEnable displayed the product with flexible fingerprint sensors, and this could be beneficial for the use of security as the device can be muffled around a door handle.
FlexEnable say that the technology requires a lot more research and development until it is perfect. However, we are still seeing many flexible OLED screens popping up here and there and we will definitely expect to see more in the near future. Is this a gadget that you see yourself using in eighteen months’ time?
