Oppo's new Super VOOC has one crazy trick
You've probably heard of Oppo's VOOC technology before, which can charge your smartphone from dead to full in about a half an hour, if not a little longer. Now, they're back with Super VOOC, which can charge your phone to 100% in just 15 minutes. That's right, 15 minutes.
The Super VOOC technology is still in the prototyping stage, and there aren't any new devices that will support it when it was first announced. Additionally, it doesn't look like there will be backwards compatibility, either. So it'll be exclusive to new Oppo smartphones only.
Super VOOC works by outputting a constant 5V charge, which according to Oppo, there aren't any heat issues to worry about. Additionally, charging a phone that has a 2500mAh battery, the Super VOOC technology can get the battery charged to 45% in just roughly 5 minutes.
To help combat reliability and heat issues, the power adapter as well as the cable and connector are built with "military grade" materials. And speaking of connectors, microUSB and USB-C is supported with the technology.
According to Oppo, the reason the Super VOOC technology has been developed is because smartphone battery technology has not been evolving at a fast enough pace as the mobile industry. As we are using smartphones more and more, we need battery technology to last longer and keep up, and it hasn't just yet.
Oppo is planning on releasing a phone with Super VOOC later this year, and is again in the prototype stage. We'll let you know more information as soon as more comes out.
