Sony's new security camera supports 4K resolution

While security cameras are often necessary for making sure our valuables stay safe, whether it would be at home or at work. However, they often come in options that have with low-resolution cameras that makes it virtually impossible to see things in great detail, which can become a challenge at times. Sony is combatting this with the SNC-VB770, which according to Sony is a 4K mirrorless, E-Mount network camera that can capture "clear color at 30fps, even when the subject is almost invisible to the naked eye," Under the E-mount lens is a 12.2-megapixel sensor, which can capture 4K video in dark night conditions as low as .004 lux. Which interestingly, Sony's Alpha A7S II mirrorless camera also has this same feature.

There are multiple low-light use cases for this camera, as it could be used for road ice detection, rail tunnel surveillance, after hours museum monitoring and even nighttime wildlife monitoring. One cool trick you can do with the 4K resolution is you can crop out specific parts of the video and it can display them as four separate VGA (640 x 480) videos. The feature can be controlled over WiFi via a smartphone. The video and JPEG images can be sent directly to a LAN connection as well, via an RJ-45 connector.

The lens used on the camera is the 35mm f/1.4 Zeiss lens, which sells for roughly $1,600USD. If you don't like that lens selection, just choose a different E-mount lens. The SNC-VB770 costs about 850,000 yen, or ($7,500USD)
