Samsung may be preparing a Galaxy S7 Mini to compete with the iPhone SE
With Apple’s rumoured 4-inch iPhone just around the corner, the latest rumours about Samsung don’t come as much of a surprise.
According to rumours, Samsung is preparing to launch a new Mini device, specifically a Galaxy S7 Mini, in the hope of taking back some of the new iPhone SE’s sales. Previously Samsung has released Mini variants of the Galaxy SIII, S4 and S5, though it stopped this tradition with the S6, despite all the rumours and leaks surrounding a device.
When comparing the Mini variants to their respective flagships, they all have one thing in common, aside from being smaller. The spec sheet featured on each device is significantly lower-end than the one featured on their bigger siblings, a stark contrast to what Sony’s been doing with its Z Compact line. This might change with the S7 Mini though, as it’s alleged that the Mini variant will come with a near identical spec sheet to the regular S7, aside from the screen size and resolution which is expected to be a 4.6-inch 720x1280p display.
The device, created in response to Apple’s iPhone SE, will reportedly be unveiled sometime in April and will feature the same Snapdragon 820 or Exynos 8890 processor as the S7, along with 3GB of RAM, a 12MP rear camera and a thickness of 9.9mm. There is also talk of a “periscope lens” accessory with a 3x optical zoom.
Obviously, this is all just speculation as of right now, so there is still the possibility that the device will never see the light of day, but if the rumours turn out to be true, expect to hear a lot more about the device in the coming weeks.
