MSI's new desktop takes design cues from the Mac Pro
Most gamers know that you simply can't game on a Mac like you can on a Windows machine, even with Apple's beautifully designed Mac Pro. Thankfully, MSI is here to help if you like the design of the Mac Pro but want to game as well. The desktop is called the Vortex, and it is now shipping to the US for $2,199. As mentioned above, it takes some design cues from Apple's "trashcan" Mac Pro but upgrades it for a more aggressive look, like you'd expect on a gaming PC.
The exterior of the Vortex has a lighting strip that surrounds the contours of the case, which can be customised via a connected app. And the interior of the computer also takes cues from Apple's mac, as it is using the triangular core that contains the CPU and two GPU's, and a single fan that cools everything down.
The specifications of the Vortex include an Intel Core i7-6700 processor, and your choice of two or four sticks of 8GB DDR4 RAM. The more powerful model has an Nvidia GeForce GTX 980 GPU's. The lower-spec model has a pair of GeForce GTX 960's. Both models have two 128GB SSDs as well as a 1TB HDD. As far as ports go, you have a pair of Gigabit Ethernet controllers, two Thunderbolt 3/USB-C ports, four USB 3.0 connections, two DisplayPort interfaces and a pair of HDMIs. It is important to note that It has a volume of only 6.5 liters and a height of 10.5 inches tall.
MSI also makes the point that the Vortex is like any other Windows machine in the fact that it can be upgradable. They are also promising that it can soon be more than powerful to run VR games for the Oculus Rift or HTC's Vive. As mentioned above, the cheaper version of the Vortex will cost $2,199 while the more powerful version will cost 3,999.
