Vizio releases new TV's with an Android Tablet as the remote

Vizio on Tuesday updated their P-Series 4K HDTV's, but the new version is so much more than the regular update. For starters, while the TV is technically a "smart" TV, there aren't any apps pre-loaded on the device. Instead, you'll have to stream content with Google's Cast service built in. This feature is a first for any TV set. You can shoot media to the TV either using the Vizio SmartCast app via the included Android Tablet remote, or any other Android or iOS device. The SmartCast service also serves as the central hub for discovering media, and it also controls all of your TV settings.

Additionally, the P-Series also adds HDR and Dolby Vision support as well as ultra-wide color spectrum. There is also full array backlighting that has 128 active LED zones. In this case, more are better because it can achieve richer black levels.

As mentioned above, the TV comes with a 6-inch Android tablet as the remote. As far as specifications of the tablet itself, it has a 6-inch 2080p screen that is being powered by a V8 Octa-Core processor. The tablet charges wirelessly through a charging dock. Vizio also included a small infra-red remote that does the standard things as changing the volume or channels.

The SmartCast app works just like any other SmartTV app before it. You can search for TV shows and movies and it'll point you to the right service to use. And sending that content is no different than using Google's Chromecast. Just simply find the right TV to send the content to and boom, you're set.

There are multiple sizes of the P-Series TV's from Vizio. The first is a 50-inch TV, and it'll set you back $1,000. A 55-inch TV will set you back $1,300, a 65-incher for $2,000 and there is even a 75-inch version for $3,800. All four models will be on sale starting today.
