Microsoft's 2016 /BUILD conference: Explained

Microsoft started their annual /BUILD developer conference on Tuesday the 29th at their San Francisco location. And this year, Microsoft announced a slew of new things, ranging from new cloud services, to new extensions in productivity, and much more.

Qui Lu, who is the executive vice president of the Applications and Services Group stated, “In terms of reach, Office is one of the few platforms in the world that provides developers with access to over a billion users across a variety of devices,”

As far as some of the announcement go, they also announced new features inside of their many apps, such as the ability to schedule your next meeting at a nearby Starbucks location inside of Outlook.

Continuing on with productivity, Microsoft announced an ‘Anniversary Update' to Windows 10, making it available to 500 more devices than before, as well as some other features to enhance the user experience.

Microsoft also gave a little response to Apple’s claim about how the average person has a 5 year old PC. They responded saying that they build software to “cater to everyone.”

Microsoft also went on to talk more about their take on virtual reality headset, the HoloLens. The device has now begun shipping to developers who have preordered the headset for a mere $3,000USD.

Another exciting feature for gamers, or users of Microsoft’s Xbox One, is that Cortana, their personal assistant is coming to Xbox One. The interpretation of Cortana could lead to better productivity when it come to gaming as well as added features that could enhance the user experience.
