Although the case between Apple and the FBI over one of the San Bernadino Attackers iPhone is over, it seems to be becoming a trend to ask Apple to unlock a phone. The United States Department of Justice is asking Apple to unlock an alleged drug dealer in New York, they are continuing to ask even after they were able to unlock the terrorist's iPhone from the San Bernadino case only weeks ago with help from a third party.
The DOJ is now saying that the "hack" used to unlock the iPhone 5c will not work with the drug dealers 5s. The "hack" used by the FBI and a third party has not yet been revealed publicly. In February, a magistrate judge ruled that the government Cannot force Apple to unlock the iPhone that belonged to the terrorist, but it turned out the FBI didn't need Apple.
Again, this is not the case with the drug dealer in New York, Apple will most likely stand with their argument that creating software to unlock a disabled iPhone is a huge risk to all of its customers. According to Buzzfeed Apple needs to respond within next week,"Apple can respond by April 15, and the government can reply in the case by April 22."
The DOJ will continue pursuing Apple, pleading with them to provide assistance. TechDependent will upload a story next week on Apple's response, but until then who's side are you on? Do you agree with Apple or support the DOJ? Let us know in the comments.
