Microsoft’s Blue Screen of Death now has QR codes
A few days ago we had news coming in on the new Microsoft Developer Preview Build 14316 with its new and exciting features including native Bash support and Cortana synchronization across devices. It seems that is not the only thing Redmond has in store, behind the interface and the new update is a nifty little feature that Redmond hopes would help the user identify solutions to system crashes.
The new build now has a QR code displayed on the famous “Blue Screen of Death”(BSOD) page which when scanned would possibly open internet pages with help and resources on the problem causing the system malfunction, making it easier to solve. This feature was discovered by a Reddit user whose build crashed upon running it on VMWare. The feature may be very helpful for people who find searching for a solution to the BSOD very tiresome; imagine the possibilities, just scan and have a webpage open with possible solutions to the problem.
The Blue Screen of Death is every Windows user’s nightmare and it usually occurs when hardware or low-level software encounters a critical error causing Windows to “stop” and restart. Pre-Windows 7 builds had a dark blue, not-so-pleasant BSOD with technical error codes and lots of information which could be difficult to understand sometimes. After the release of Windows 7, the BSOD featured a smiley, less text and an error code for diagnosing the problem. The new Windows 10 feature seems to add a better way to diagnose the problem seamlessly. The feature is likely to be bundled with the Windows 10 anniversary update coming in summer.
