Apple and the MLB to provide iPad Pros to every team
Apple recently struck a multi-year deal with the MLB (Major League Baseball) that would provide every Baseball team in the league with iPad Pros for use in the dugout, according to a report via The Wall Street Journal.
The iPad Pros used would be the larger 12.9-inch model, instead of the smaller 9-inch model that was announced earlier this year. The tablets would also be equipped with a rugged MLB branded case, based on the STM case (pictured below). Additionally, there will be a custom app developed for the MLB called MLB Dugout that will help managers see performance statistics for their players, check videos from earlier games, and even analyze how pitchers and hitters perform against each other.
The Apple and MLB deal is similar to the deal that Microsoft made with the NFL (National Football League) that would have Surface tablets on the sideline of each game. The only difference, The NFL deal is mandatory, while the MLB deal is optional for each team.
The use of technology in the dugout such as the use of Laptops, smartphones and tablets has been banned for a long time now, but that ban will be lifted with the Apple agreement. It is important to note that there have been no financial details made available to the public.
