GoPro releases their VR rig called Omni
GoPro has been said to release their own VR 360-degree video rig for a while now, as they have first announced plans for the device early last year. And recently, they have recently announced the final version called Omni.
According to a report via Engadget, GoPro's Omni can host six GoPro Hero4 cameras, and it also includes extra hardware and software that can stitch the cameras together to create 360-degree videos at "pixel level." Disappointingly, the Omni cannot record 3D videos, like GoPro's own Odyssey system which Google unveiled last year at I/O.
GoPro has been silent on the details of how much the device will cost, but the six cameras altogether will cost you a pretty penny at around $3,000. The price could go higher or lower than that, but it is still a great deal considering the Odyssey costs $15,000.
GoPro is expected to show off the Omni at NAB 2016 (National Association of Broadcasters) in Las Vegas later this month, so we should know more around that time.
