The Windows 10 anniversary update (codename Redstone) is bringing a host of new interesting features to the OS. We’ve recently reported on Bash support, a new BSOD, Cortana synchronisation across devices and many UI improvements in the Developer preview build. Yet another feature that was rumoured to be released by Microsoft in Redstone is confirmed now; the new multiple device integration and syncing feature popularly called the “handoff” on OS X has shown up in the latest developer preview build of Windows 10. Users of the Developer builds have reported the option being available in settings.

The handoff feature is a great little addition that allows users to start work on their computer and then continue on a connected device and vice versa. It works in a very similar manner to that present on OS X computers. If a user was, for example composing a message on the computer and had to leave, he/she could easily continue typing that message on phone seamlessly with no hassle. All that is needed is connectivity between both devices. This feature promises to be better and more useful than that present on the OS X platform. Cortana would now also remind a user of incomplete tasks across multiple devices, and this can increase productivity. Microsoft plans to bring this and other similar features to other platforms like Android and iOS.
